The Broom Plant
The lowly Broom plant. At least i used to think its lowly since it grows wild all around the house until I found it among a list of desirable plants for the garden.
Since, the cows don't eat it, its use here seems to be as a cover to keep the frost away from young more desirable plants.

Hi Kalyani,
The scrotch broom is one of the most invasive plants in the Nilgiris. Introduced by the British, it has spread like a weed and replaced several natives. The result is that our plants don't have place to grow, and our insects, birds etc have lesser food...
